PRINTING DEMO
HOW TO USE YOUR SILKSCREEN
| Apply a duct tape frame around the silkscreen image on both sides of the screen. This prevents the ink from coming through the screen around the image area. Go to the Taping Demo Page for detailed taping instructions. | |

1. With a marker, mark the top of your screen. The shiny side goes underneath. |
![]() |
2. Dab a small amount of paint or ink across the top of the screen. You need enough to cover the screen but not so much that you have a lot of extra paint or ink. |

3. With a scraper or a silk screen squeegee draw the paint or ink down across the screen. |

Some people use a paint scraper, windshield scraper or even a credit card! Results will vary depending on the paint or ink and the surface you are printing on. |

4. Draw the ink down the screen maintaining a firm pressure, while holding the screen in place with your other hand. 5. Repeat the process of drawing the paint/ink down the screen until the entire screen has been inked. This may take several passes. Work in one direction. |

6. Lift a corner to see that the ink has penetrated the screen. If not, lay the screen down very carefully and repeat. |

7. When you are satisfied with it, carefully lift the screen away from the fabric. |

8. Dry the fabric or print in a safe place. Follow directions on the materials you are using to heat set the ink or paint as needed. We used design# p8m |
LARGE SILKSCREEN PRINTING DEMO |

1. Printing on larger screens is basically the same as in Demo 1. You need more paint or ink on the screen and will need to make many passes over the screen to ensure complete coverage. |

2. Make sure the screen is laying flat on the surface to be printed. |

3. A good surface is a hard table covered with a layer of felt, an old sheet and a layer of plastic. The paint or ink will probably leak through the fabric. |

4. If printing on a shirt, be sure to protect the back layer from paint or ink leaking through with a layer of plastic between the front and back layers. |

5. When you are satisfied with it, carefully lift the screen away from the fabric. |
